3. The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak

Markus Zusak is an Australian writer. He published his remarkable novel in 2005, and it has since sold over 16 million copies. He’s won awards for his writings. 5. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams

6. The Color Purple, by Alice Walker

Alice Walker is an award-winning author. She’s written lots of books. The Color Purple is one of her notable works. Initially published in 1982, it has since become a bestseller. 7. Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley

Mary Shelly wrote this novel when she was eighteen years old. Immediately after Frankenstein’s publications, it became a bestseller. It was nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by The Great American Read. Frankenstein is regarded by many as a masterpiece of suspense and the prototype of a science fiction novel.

8. The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien

John Tolkien was born in 1892. Yes, he’s dead now, but his books are still alive. Originally published in 1937, The Hobbit has soon become one of a kind. Not only is there a movie adapted from this novel with over a billion in box office sales, but it’s also won awards.

9. The Diary of a Young Girl, by Anne Frank
