It feels so good to know that there’s a way to cut costs on the electric bills. The average utility bill per household is well over $2,000 a year, and it means every month you have to pay the electric company $167 a month. Don’t get me wrong, that’s a lot. I mean, imagine saving up that money for ten years, and you will be in the green, at least $20k. Imagine what you can do with $20k. Well, let's hope that you’ll make more money so that you won’t have to worry about $20k. 

We are humans, and we always want to save money. You can buy a new car with $20k; you can put a down payment on a house or even travel the world. Well, there’s no way the light can be on without you getting a bill the next month. However, what if you can reduce that bill? Would it make you feel superior?

There are many ways you can learn to reduce your electric bills. These ways are simple and might even be an eye-opener. Some people do things, but they don’t know that’s what’s making their utility bill go up.

Some people work from home, so they need electricity to make sure that they can see at night. They also need to cool or warm up when needed.

Believe it or not, when you consume electricity, you are helping the economy, and it means more jobs for the electricians and the labor force. When you pay your electric bills, you are helping the energy company grow, and when they do, they’ll expand their workforce. 

Many people go to colleges to study chemical engineering, petroleum engineering, and electrical engineering.  With your help, they’ll have a job waiting for them.

1. Switch to a cheaper company

If you are looking for the fastest way to reduce electric bills, it’s finding a better rate. There are sites like ChooseEnergy, where you can compare to see electric companies with better rates. You might think you’ve got better deals until you research. These companies are always giving discounts. If you consume so much energy, then you have to get the best rates. Even if you calculate the cancelation/switching fee that most of these companies charge, you could still be saving a lot when you switch. 

2. Utilize free hours

Some of these electric companies will give you free hours or even days that you won’t be charged a dime for what you consumed, no matter what you. You can take advantage of this, and you can wash and iron all those clothes during those hours. 

Yeah, it could be annoying because you might want to do the laundry at a particular time, but you have to do it when it’s free electricity if you’re going to save. 

3. Buy heaters 

If you have a two or three-bedroom home, you have to buy heaters for you to save some money. There are small bedside heaters that work just fine. They can quickly heat a room, and they consume less energy. Walmart sells these heaters. You can expect to buy one at a very fair price of $15-$100. 

Of course, you know, heating the home costs more than cooling it. Whenever you feel cold, instead of turning on the heater to consume energy, you can turn on these small bedside heaters. They don’t smell bad, and they don’t make loud noises. They will warm you up quickly, and you won’t notice the difference.

4. Close the doors and windows

We all love nature and will stop at nothing but to enjoy it. Yes, we don’t mind spending extra money on the utility bill when we walk or look outside, but sometimes we forget to lock up. If you want to save money on utilities, you have to close the doors and windows. When you set the Ac to a certain degree, if it doesn’t get to it, this means it will run all day, and that’s money wasting. 

To save more money, you have to make sure you seal your doors, windows, holes, and outlets. Doing this would help prevent air from going out and coming in, thereby reducing your electric bill’s cost.
